Film & Vinyl may be more of a film blog but I still intend to talk about music here like I did with Outsider’s Music. I was debating on whether or not I should put this here because ideally, I want to use this space to talk about music from the past or movie soundtracks. But since I’m a fan of Charlotte Gainsbourg’s music and it’s been at least six years since the release of Stage Whisper and eight years since IRM,  I wanted to do a very brief write up.

“Rest” is the new single off her new album with the same name. It’s set to be released this November. Daft Punk’s Guy Manuel de Homem-Christo composed and co-wrote the title track. I don’t use Apple Music but the video she directed is available over there for you to check it out. After viewing 30-second preview, I can say it’s a lovely montage of archival footage. It includes old movie clips and images she shot her self.

As for the song itself, it’s a relaxing track but the synthesizers create an eerie mood. The track also references the song “Walking In The Air” from the 1982 film “The Snowman”. Her voice is always soothing and calming to my ears. Here, she provides a hint of sadness to her whispering vocals. It’s a beautiful song. It’s a contrast from her previous stuff. I look forward to hearing the rest of this album. I’m a happy fan tonight.
